Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

3Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus(A) who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.(B) twoHe came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi,(C) we know(D) that you are a teacher who has come up from God. For no one could perform the signs(E) you are doing if God were not with him."(F)

3Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you lot, no ane can run into the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]"(Yard)

4"How tin can someone be born when they are one-time?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a 2nd time into their mother's womb to be born!"

5Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are built-in of water and the Spirit.(H) 6Mankind gives nascency to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit.(I) 7You lot should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.' viiiThe current of air blows wherever information technology pleases. You hear its sound, but y'all cannot tell where information technology comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."[d] (J)

9"How can this be?"(G) Nicodemus asked.

x"Y'all are Israel'south teacher,"(L) said Jesus, "and do you not sympathize these things? elevenVery truly I tell yous, we speak of what we know,(K) and nosotros testify to what we have seen, but still yous people practise not accept our testimony.(N) 12I have spoken to yous of earthly things and you do non believe; how then will you lot believe if I speak of heavenly things? thirteenNo one has always gone into heaven(O) except the 1 who came from heaven(P)—the Son of Human being.[due east] (Q) xivJust as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,(R) so the Son of Human being must exist lifted upwards,[f] (Southward) 15that everyone who believes(T) may take eternal life in him."[chiliad] (U)

16For God so loved(V) the world that he gave(West) his 1 and only Son,(X) that whoever believes(Y) in him shall non perish but have eternal life.(Z) 17For God did not ship his Son into the globe(AA) to condemn the earth, simply to salvage the world through him.(AB) xviiiWhoever believes in him is not condemned,(Air-conditioning) just whoever does non believe stands condemned already because they accept non believed in the proper noun of God'due south 1 and only Son.(AD) 19This is the verdict: Calorie-free(AE) has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light considering their deeds were evil.(AF) twentyEveryone who does evil hates the light, and will not come up into the low-cal for fear that their deeds will be exposed.(AG) 21But whoever lives past the truth comes into the lite, and so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
